Title: Partner

Harold Sorgenti is responsible for sourcing and evaluating deals as well as providing critical advice on value creation through operational improvement, business strategy, supply chain management, and competitive market positioning across our portfolio.  He brings a unique combination of proven private equity investment experience coupled with a highly successful career as a senior operating executive in the chemical industry.

Prior to Ennovance Capital, Hal founded and has served as the Managing Partner of Sorgenti Investment Partners, a specialty chemical investment group, since 1996.

In 1991, Hal co-founded Freedom Chemical Company, where he served as its Chairman until 1996, guiding the company as it quickly expanded.  Following Freedom’s successful acquisition and integration of several lower middle-market specialty chemical companies, the company was purchased by B.F. Goodrich for $372 million.

Prior to founding Freedom Chemical, Hal served as the President and CEO of ARCO Chemical.  Hal capped off his 32-year career at the company by serving for nine years as its President and an additional four as President and CEO.  Hal started at ARCO as an assistant development engineer, developing 10 patents that witnessed significant commercial success, and he continued this pattern of success as he ascended the ranks at ARCO.  While leading the company, Hal increased yearly sales at ARCO to over $3 billion and is credited with successfully guiding the division of the company into two entities: Lyondell Petrochemical (now part of LyondellBasell, annual revenue ~$45 billion) and a restructured ARCO Chemical Company.

In addition to being recognized as one of the top 25 industrial executives of the century (globally) by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AlChE), Hal has also received numerous civic, national, international and academic honors during his career.  These awards include the prestigious 2003 Petrochemical Heritage Award, several honorary doctorates from leading universities, the William Penn Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Philip H. Ward, Jr. Medal from the Franklin Institute, and many more.

Over the years, Hal has served on both public and private companies’ boards and is currently a director of AE Biofuels, Zero Technologies, the Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation and other.

Outside of his professional life, Hal also spends much of his time supporting the arts in Philadelphia.  He is currently a director of the Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the Academy of Music, and previously served six years as its Chairman.  In addition, he has been highly involved with the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
